A big part of Richmond Expo is the opportunity to network with other local business owners. You’ll do that naturally throughout the day at the Expo, as there’s a social atmosphere at the bar, around the hall and in the seating areas.

However, if you want to try something different, you might want to participate in one of the speed networking sessions being run by networking specialists 4 Networking at this year’s event on 22nd May.

Not for the faint hearted

Speed networking is not everyone’s cup of tea. Some people find it just too loud, fast and furious – and in all honesty perhaps not the most effective form of networking.

But others do enjoy it, so we thought let’s give it a try! Here’s our FAQs to help you decide if this is for you:

speed-networkingWhat is speed networking?

Speed networking is a way to engage with dozens of business owners in a very short space of time. You can then follow up after the event with any prospective referral business or strategic partners.

How does it work?

There’ll be a group of up to 40 people per session and you have a minute to ‘pitch’ your business to each member of the group. So that’s up to 40 times you’ll be explaining to someone what you do! And you’ll therefore hear 40 people pitching their business to you.

What’s the point?

The idea is that out of those 40 or so potential new contacts, at least a few might be worth following up on after the event. It could be a potential new client, strategic partner or perhaps someone else in your network that you could connect them with.

The other benefit is that it’s great practice for your ‘elevator pitch’ – in other words, how to succinctly explain your business and the benefits you offer in less than a minute. That’s a skill well worth acquiring for whenever you next find yourself at a networking event.

Where and when is it happening?

Two sessions will run at 12.30pm and 2.30pm on Friday 22nd May 2015 at Twickenham Stadium – all part of the Richmond Expo. Each session lasts around 45 minutes and you are guaranteed to meet at least 40 different businesses in that time.

To take part in the speed networking sessions register for your FREE ticket here and head on over to the 4N Speed Networking area on the day (it will be signposted) and inform them that you’d like to participate.

And remember to bring plenty of business cards!
